Henrietta and Dan Kemp are Murray State alums. Dan (’67, ’70) used his QCD to support Murray State and is current chair of the Board of Regents. Henrietta (’69, ’79) received her degrees in education.
A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from an IRA or other retirement plan can be used to make gifts directly to the Murray State University Foundation, Inc. You can direct your gift to benefit scholarships and programs at Murray State that mean the most to you! Here are some guidelines:
- You—the donor—must be over the age of 70½ to make a QCD.
- With the passage of the SECURE Act, the minimum REQUIRED age that individuals MUST take a required minimum distribution (RMD) has been changed from age 70½ to 72. Individuals who turned 70½ before Jan. 1, 2020, must continue to take distributions, despite this revision in the statutes.
- Making the gift is easy—simply call the Murray State office of development at 270-809-3001 for a QCD form and request a check from your plan administrator made payable to MSU Foundation, Inc.
Murray State alumnus and current chair of the Murray State University Board of Regents, Dan Kemp (’67, ’70), says, “I have found that making a distribution directly to a qualified charity is a great way to withdraw from my IRA account without incurring any income tax liability. The process was very simple and easy. All I had to do was sign one form and give him the name and address of Murray State’s Foundation.”
We can help you make a difference AND enhance your personal financial goals through giving! When you make a QCD to Murray State, you keep the RMDs out of your taxable income. For more information or to request a QCD form, call Dr. David Durr, CFA, CFP® today at 270-809-6912.
