Making a Gift in Your Will

Marching BandOn Jan. 19, 1946, a group of forward-thinking alumni and friends of Murray State Teachers College met to discuss the formation of a foundation to accept and manage private donations and endowments in order to benefit the College. A few months later, it became official, and the Murray State University Foundation was formed as a separate, unaffiliated, not-for-profit corporation.

The stated purpose for the Foundation was simple: "To do and perform all things necessary for the development, growth, expansion, progress, the accomplishment of educational objectives, the development of the physical plant, the improvement of the faculty, and aid to the student body and alumni of Murray State University." After 71 years, this purpose remains today.

Since 1946, due to the generosity of thousands of alumni and friends, the Foundation has grown significantly and provides millions of dollars of support each year to every area of the University, especially for the funding of student scholarships.

Pogue LibraryThroughout our history, some of the largest gifts received have been made through donors's wills. Leaving a gift in your will has many advantages:

  1. It is easy. It is as simple as a few sentences.
  2. It can be changed or updated at any time.
  3. It may reduce the taxes on your estate.
  4. It will provide a permanent legacy for you and your family.

Please consider including a gift in your will or other estate plans. Contact Dr. David Durr, CFA, CFP® at ddurr@murraystate.edu or 270-809-6912 if you have questions or need assistance. Thank you for all that you do for Murray State University.
