Murray State student playing on a Steinway grand piano

A generous alumnus of Murray State University, who wishes to remain anonymous, has made a transformative multi-year commitment to support the University’s music program. This commitment made possible the purchase of a new Steinway grand piano for the Performing Arts Hall, which arrived on campus this past fall. The gift will also provide for additional program equipment needs and establish two endowed funds—one dedicated to scholarships for music students and another to support ongoing program and operational needs.

Through a hybrid approach—combining current gifts with a documented planned gift that will ultimately be realized through a bequest—the donor is creating both immediate and lasting impact. This structure allows the donor to experience the fulfillment of giving today while also establishing a meaningful legacy that will benefit the University for generations to come.

This extraordinary investment will strengthen the long-term vitality and stability of Murray State University’s music program, including helping maintain essential accreditation standards related to instruments and equipment. As permanent endowments, these funds will directly enhance the student experience by providing access to exceptional instruments, scholarships, travel opportunities, internship support, and more.

The donor’s generosity is inspired by a desire to honor a close family member whose lifelong love of music left a lasting impression. Murray State University is deeply grateful for this remarkable commitment and the enduring impact it will have on the Department of Music.
