A Beloved Coach Is Remembered With a Scholarship
Establishing a memorial gift is a meaningful way to honor your loved one while supporting the work of our mission. Your memorial gift will be a lasting tribute to your loved one and make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
Recently, Linda Luther, the widow of legendary Murray State Men’s Basketball Coach Cal Luther, made a planned gift to support the Cal Luther Scholarship, which benefits students from high schools in Northwestern Tennessee. Coach Luther, best known for leading the 1963-1964 team to Murray State’s first NCAA Tournament appearance, had a deep affection for the university and community. Linda shared that Murray State held a special place in Cal’s heart, even though they hadn’t lived in town for nearly 40 years before his passing. She felt it was fitting to give back, allowing future students to experience the same love for Murray State.
Making a gift through a bequest (a donation through your will or trust), in as little as one sentence, is the easiest way to support our mission and make a lasting statement about what matters most to you. Cash, appreciated securities, tangible personal property, closely held stock or real estate—gifts can come in all shapes and sizes to make an impact on Murray State University.
Like Linda, you too can ensure a loved one’s legacy honors their proud loyalty to Murray State with a memorial gift. Contact Dr. David Durr, CFA, CFP® at 270-809-6912 and ddurr@murraystate.edu to learn more.
